A film by Bernard Halut
Following a car crash, Sophie (40) lies in a coma. Her husband, Cedric (40), tries to bring her back to consciousness by playing a slew of videos shot by their daughter Nina (12) on her cell phone over the months preceding the accident. From a kid’s playful perspective, we witness a family falling apart.
The tense mosaic of flashbacks reveals a man-and-wife sales team so entangled in a mad race for wealth and status that they fail to see their own daughter’s growing pains, or their own life slipping away from them. Under the influence of Arnaud (45), an upstart with whom Sophie is having an affair, the couple gets into massive debt in hopes of making a big score. Their bumbling incompetence, compounded by the global financial crisis, will bring about their ruin and a tumbling series of tragic events.
Nina is the key to the story -- a spirited, creative twelve-year-old coming to grip with her nascent womanhood, the callous world of adults, and her own force as the ultimate protector of her family.
